If you are not having any symptoms, then you probably do not need a test to check your lungs and the arteries in your neck. These tests rarely find problems or change how the surgery is managed. They can also lead to additional tests and delay the surgery.
If you have a breathing problem or symptoms of a stroke, a breathing test and an ultrasound of the arteries in your neck may help make the heart surgery safer. These tests can help your doctor see if you are at risk for pneumonia or a stroke and if there is a need for treatment before the surgery.

Sometimes symptoms such as wheezing and shortness of breath can indicate asthma. However, they can also stem from the common cold, heart disease or other common conditions. Having a simple breathing test like spirometry that measures airflow in and out of your lungs can help confirm if you have asthma or another health problem. This test can also help your doctor treat known asthma by cutting back on your medications or increasing your medications to prevent an attack.
Not having a Spirometry test to confirm asthma can pose health risks. If your doctor assumes you have asthma and you do not, you may be prescribed medication that can cause the lungs to be scarred.

The Fair Price is the price that you should reasonably expect a medical service to cost if you shop for care. Even in-network providers can have big cost differences for the exact same service. The most expensive providers can cost more than five times as much as providers that charge a Fair Price.
The Fair Price is calculated from actual amounts health plans have paid on claims. Some services show “bundled” pricing, which means there are multiple parts to the Fair Price. These usually include facility, physician and anesthesiologist fees, and can be viewed individually in the Fair Price Details. It’s always a good idea to request a price estimate from the provider and compare it to the Fair Price before your procedure.
The information on this website is not a price guarantee. There is no guarantee that any specific provider will charge a specific rate or that specific services will be covered under your benefit plan.
