A sample of the feedback that we have received from healthcare providers:
I applaud your attempts at publicizing rates of medical procedures. This is a difficult process, made even more opaque by insurance companies, who change their reimbursement rates without warning or explanation.

Working at the public/county hospital in Phoenix, we are often faced with uninsured and self-pay patients. County hospitals, though rarely ranked nationally, provide good care and often have better financial plans with cost of care usually determined on patient’s ability to pay. You should encourage patients to also look in to their local “county” hospital. Thanks! Great website for patients.

Don't forget about bartering--Docs will sometimes take services in exchange for payment: tune up for 2 office visits, house painting, etc. We want to be able to help the uninsured, and we have to pay for these other services anyway. It can be a win-win situation: Patients should not be afraid to ask!

The Healthcare Blue Book is a good starting point for consumers.
