Jeffrey J. Rice, MD, JD
CEO, The Healthcare Blue Book
Dr. Rice has over 20 years of clinical, information technology and executive management experience within
academic medical institutions, national health plans, disease management organizations and healthcare IT
solution consulting firms.
Currently, Dr. Rice is CEO for the Healthcare Blue Book which provides fair pricing
to consumers,
employers and providers. Previously, Dr. Rice served as Executive Vice President of Medical Leadership and
Business Development, for Healthways where he was responsible for leading strategic alliances, and mergers
and acquisitions. Prior to that position, Dr. Rice served as CEO of CareSteps, which was successfully merged
with Healthways.
Dr. Rice led the development and implementation of market leading technologies in consumer-oriented
evidence based medicine and advanced predictive modeling for CareSteps. In addition, Dr. Rice has extensive
managed care operational experience having served in executive roles with NYLCare (New York Life Insurance
Company's managed health care subsidiary) and as Director of the Managed Care Organization at Duke
University. Dr. Rice currently serves as an independent director of Source Medical Solutions and nTelagent
and an advisory board member of Seneca Health Partners Venture Capital Fund.
Dr. Rice is a long-time champion of advancing the science of medical outcomes and quality
measurement. He serves on the editorial board for the American Journal of Medical Quality
and is a member of the editorial board for the Population Health Management journal.
William Kampine
Senior VP, Employer Solutions
Mr. Kampine is an experienced healthcare executive having more than 15 years of expertise in mergers and
acquisitions (M&A), strategy, advanced analytics, international management and new venture
development. Mr. Kampine currently serves as SVP, Employer Solutions for the Healthcare Blue Book where he oversees the development
and delivery of programs designed to meet the needs of employer customers.
Previously, Mr. Kampine was Vice President of Innovation & Insight and a key architect of next
generation employer solutions at Healthways, a global leader in providing Disease and Lifestyle Management
services. Mr. Kampine served in a number of executive roles at Healthways, including the founding of the
internal strategy and M&A function where he led several key strategic acquisitions, as well as the
establishment of Healthways business outside the United States.
Prior to Healthways, Mr. Kampine assisted in the development of CareSteps Inc., a predictive modeling
and disease management company that successfully merged with Healthways in 2001. Mr. Kampine also served as
an economist and consultant to global Fortune 1000 companies in the healthcare, insurance and pharmaceutical
industries. Mr. Kampine conducted graduate work in economics at George Washington University
and holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
J. Mark McConnell
Senior VP, Business Development
Mr. McConnell brings over 15 years of healthcare experience to provide leadership to all aspects of Healthcare Blue Book’s business development activities including identifying sales opportunities for the company’s price transparency solutions as well as working on the development of new client-driven services.
Mr. McConnell served as Senior Vice President of Business and Corporate Development for HealthFitness Corporation where he moved the organization into new distribution channels to diversify and grow revenue resulting in the sale of HealthFitness to Trustmark Insurance in March of 2010.
Mr. McConnell also served as Senior Vice President of the Employer Solutions Group for Healthways where he developed and managed complex channel sales environment to achieve 10x revenue growth in four years. His experience with large employer groups includes work with General Motors where he was the Health Plan Manager of Health Care Initiatives with Kaiser Permanente.
Mark is extremely active in the health care community having served on multiple committees and boards at both the regional and national level. Mark has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Muskingum College in New Concord Ohio.
Aimee Stern
VP, Communications
Ms. Stern is an accomplished corporate marketing, health policy and media communications executive with more than 20 years of experience.
Ms. Stern serves as VP, Communications for the Healthcare Blue Book, where she is the chief strategist for all communications campaigns and is deeply involved
with its efforts to provide information that helps patients make better informed decisions about treatment options and what they should pay for them.
Ms. Stern is founder and president of Washington, DC based Stern Communications, LLC. Ms. Stern excels at transforming complex health,
science and education information into mass market media campaigns. She is dedicated to furthering public understanding of health and science, and strongly believes that our nation
must do more to educate the American consumer about healthcare costs and choices.
Ms. Stern has designed and executed
successful communications products and campaigns for the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the USA Science & Engineering Festival 2010, the National Academy
of Engineering and the Healthcare Distribution Management Association, among others. Her writing is published in over 100 newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, U.S. News & World Report,
Fortune's Small Business, Money and Business Week. Her first book, Delaying that First Drink: A Parents’ Guide will be out in the spring of 2010 and published by the education directorate
